Enjoy a feast of shows during the Spring Festival holiday

The Futian District Government has prepared a feast of classical music, Chinese folk music and traditional Chinese operas at the Futian Lunar New Year Art Festival for locals during the Spring Festival holiday. Tickets can be purchased on the WeChat miniapp “大麦” or the WeChat account “szyyt_piao.”

Fang Jinlong
Veteran Chinese pipa player Fang Jinlong will collaborate with his musician friends to give a night of traditional Chinese music. Fang is renowned for playing crossover music on the traditional Chinese instrument pipa. He is also a nationally recognized composer, collector of exquisite musical instruments and one of Futian District’s cultural ambassadors.

Huang Ying
Soprano Huang Ying will sing several Chinese and Western classical songs and pianist Xue Yingjia will accompany her. Born in 1968, Huang first came to international attention when she sang the title role in Frederic Mitterrand’s 1995 film “Madame Butterfly” and went on to an international career both in opera and on the concert stage.

JZ Big Band
The Chinese jazz band JZ Big Band will collaborate with singer and Shanghai JZ School teacher Li Jie to present a night of easy-listening tunes, such as “Sweet Georgia Brown,” “American Gothic,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “It’s Almost Like Being in Love,” “Nature Boy” and “L.O.V.E.”

An Tianxu
Young Chinese pianist An Tianxu will perform Prokofiev’s “Four Etudes, Op. 2,” Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata No. 31, Op. 110,” Liszt’s “Ballade No. 2, S.171” and “Etudes S. 139, No. 8,” Tchaikovsky’s “Meditation, Op. 72, No. 5,” “Nocturne Op. 10, No. 1” and “The Seasons: November ‘Troika’” and two Chinese pieces.
Born in 1999, An won fourth prize and a special prize for “self-confidence and bravery” in the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, where his performance was lauded by the jury chairman Denis Matsuev as “sensational” and “beyond his years of maturity.” He has studied at the middle school affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Curtis Institute of Music in the United States.

Kong Jianing
Chinese pianist Kong Jianing will perform Mozart’s “Fantasia in C Minor, K. 475,” Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata No. 32” and Liszt’s “Piano Sonata in B Minor, S. 178.” Born in 1986, Kong is a prizewinner of many international piano competitions, such as the 2009 Leeds Piano Competition and the 2015 Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition. He has studied at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, the Purcell School in the outskirts of London and the Royal College of Music in London.

Xi’an Symphony Orchestra
Xi’an Symphony Orchestra will perform Chinese folk tunes Feb. 17 and Western classical pieces Feb. 18, such as Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro Overture,” Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody, S. 244, No. 2 in C-sharp Minor” and Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade, Op. 35.”
