October 13, 2020 @ 10:00 am 6:00 pm

It is summer vacation and children should not miss a science exhibition where they will learn about our ancestors from 500 million years ago.

“From Fish to Human: The March of Vertebrate Life in China,” presented by the Shenzhen Museum and the China Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, is being held at the museum. Entry is free and booking is required.

More than 100 animal skeletons and ape man skulls, models and description videos are on display to present the 500-million-year vertebrate evolution from ocean to land, from fish to human, and from the Cambrian Period to the Quaternary Period.

Visitors will be awed by a 22-meter-long mamenchisaurus hochuanensis skeleton found in Hechuan, Chongqing Municipality. The dinosaur is a sauropod dinosaur genus that includes several species, known for their remarkably long necks which made up half the total body length. It is known from numerous species which ranged in time from 160 to 145 million years ago, from the Oxfordian age of the late Jurassic Period in China.

Other rare dinosaur skeletons and a platybelodon danovi skeleton as well as skulls of homo sapiens and ape men from Africa and China are also worth seeing.

The museum will also organize events for local children during the exhibition. In September, the museum plans to collaborate with schools to present nature science lessons.
